The Gift Of Forgetfulness

“When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.” — Jesus Christ

As a fresh student in the school of grief, I was thinking about how it has been a few months since I lost my brother and how I can look back at the exact day he passed and even though the memory is there, the pain and hurt that used to come with that day is gradually going down.

Is this a good thing? Well, it has to be because why did God create forgetfulness? I believe God created forgetfulness for situations like this. Assuming I could feel every pain and emotion I felt on the day he passed, what would life be like?

It was at this same time I happened to read Jesus’ words from John’s Gospel

“but when her baby is born, she forgets the anguish” — Jesus Christ

I am nowhere close to figuring out the pain women go through during childbirth but see how they quickly forget the pain and even go for more rounds after some time!

Well, I would say the gift of forgetfulness is one of the things that accounts for this.

You will remember the event and the situation, but thank God for the gift to forget the anguish, pain & hurt that comes with the event!

Life will throw some really hard things at you which will cause you pain and anguish but don’t worry, dearest forgetfulness will handle it for you and help you recover.

Do you still feel the pain and anguish from that heartbreak? that exam you failed? that job rejection? that loved one’s death?

As my friend, Jenni would say, FORGETTT!!!

So yes, once in a while, take time to express gratitude to God for this gift in situations like these!

Thank you for reading!

If you enjoyed it, don’t forget to give me some claps, if you didn’t, still give some claps & let me have your feedback.
